Barbara is of counsel at Sliwa & Lane. She is also Director of Academic Support at the University at Buffalo Law School, teaching courses in Ethics & Professionalism and Advanced Research and Writing that address concepts in critical thinking as they apply to the legal method. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Niagara University, summa cum laude, her MS degree in Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics from McMaster University (Ontario), and her law degree from the University at Buffalo Law School. Barbara is admitted to practice in New York State courts and the United States District Court for the Western District of New York.

She is former Co-Chair of the Ethics & Professionalism Subcommittee of the American Bar Association=s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee, Litigation Section, and former Chair of the Ethics & Professionalism Committee of the New York State Bar Association=s Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law Section. Barbara has chaired and presented numerous CLE programs for the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the Housing Authority Defense Attorneys Association.

She was a Professor in Nursing, Pharmacology and Life Sciences at Niagara College (Ontario), Niagara County Community College and Niagara University. Her graduate thesis involved design of a program to assist candidates for professional licensing examinations in the medical field. She has since adapted the work to the Bar Examination and has tutored candidates to success in passing the Bar Examination in New York and several other states.

Barbara concentrates her practice in the areas of insurance defense and coverage litigation.
